What The Vine…
Vine is the new, controversial six second video app available on iPhones and iPads. The videos can be shared on Twitter and Facebook as well as within the app with users able to like or comment on a video. The app offers few editing features but can be cut without limits.
Despite its initial notoriety being garnered through its association with porn, the now three week old app is intriguing content marketers.

What’s The Point?
You might be asking how can a six second video offer any value. How can you possibly convey your message to the viewer? Of course, you probably thought the same when Twitter blew up traditional news distribution.
As Richard Parker says:
Vine can offer you:
- An instant audience
- A (potentially) more engaging and creative medium than Twitter or Instagram
- Unexplored waters in which to make a splash
Given you can share directly with your audiences on Facebook and Twitter you aren’t growing an audience from scratch. This means you will see greater interaction immediately rather than having to build a follow first.
Vine also has sound which Twitter and Instagram don’t offer. Sound provides another method of communicating your message and enables your audience to become more familiar with you.
The best way to test the effectiveness of a new app is to simply try it so hopefully Twitter will release an Android version very soon (that’s right I went with Google). If you have an iOS device definitely sign up and grow your vine.

Someone in the UK had just tweeted me about Vine and I’d never heard of it. Guess I’ll need an iPhone or iPad first before I can check it (that’s right, I don’t have an “i” anything). Thanks. ~Debra

Wow I had no idea about the porn dramas – but I can see why that’s a big problem. Hope it’s sorted out soon. Apart from that I’d love to use Vine, but I can’t think of anything clever enough yet!
